NFF Mourns the Demise of Football ‘Professor’, Monday Sinclair

The Football Federation (NFF) is mourning the loss of the legendary football “Professor,” Monday Sinclair, who passed away on Wednesday evening. Their heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and the wider Nigerian football community during this difficult time.

Widely known as ‘Professor’ for his profound understanding of the sport, Sinclair represented ’s senior national team shortly after the country gained independence. His impact on football extended well beyond his playing days, transitioning into a beloved coach who dedicated himself to nurturing talent at grassroots levels.

Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, NFF General Secretary, expressed the federation’s sorrow: “We mourn deeply with the immediate family, friends, and relatives of ‘Professor’ Monday Sinclair over his demise. It is yet another sad day in Nigeria football. Our prayer is that God will stop the tap of grief and sorrow in our football and in the larger society.”

In 1997, he was appointed as the interim Head Coach of the Super Eagles, following the exit of French tactician Philippe Troussier, making significant contributions to the team’s evolution.
