Man’s Car Stolen from Parking Lot While Watching Kenya vs Gabon Match

A man’s car was stolen during the Kenya vs World Cup qualifier match at Nyayo Stadium. This alarming incident highlights ongoing issues with car theft in Nairobi, especially near major events.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported the theft took place on March 23, 2025. The victim parked his silver Toyota IST, registration number KBN 093B, along Kisauni Road near Nairobi West Hospital at 3:40 PM before heading to the match in the fan park area. Unfortunately, by 7 PM, he returned to find the parking spot empty. He promptly reported the theft at the Akila Police Station, prompting an investigation to recover the vehicle.

Rising Car Theft Rates Near Public Events

As football matches attract large crowds, they can also serve as opportunities for thieves. The DCI is now suggesting that fans be more vigilant about parking locations and take specific precautions. Always park in well-lit areas and consider using a tracking device for added security.

Meanwhile, Juja police are investigating another incident—a white Toyota Axio stolen from a residential area near Rurii Primary School. The owner left the car parked safely outside their home Saturday night, only to discover it missing upon waking the next morning. This underscores a broader trend of escalating vehicle thefts plaguing the local community.

Action Steps for Car Owners

Car owners should consider proactive measures to safeguard their vehicles during public events. Here are a few strategies:

  1. Parking Locations: Choose secure, well-monitored parking facilities whenever possible.
  2. Vehicle Tracking: Install location-tracking devices in your vehicles.
  3. Community Awareness: Join local neighborhood watch programs to share information about suspicious activities.

Take these steps seriously to combat the rising threat of vehicle theft during significant events. By remaining aware and prepared, we can work together to protect our assets and enhance community safety.

If you’ve experienced a vehicle theft recently or have tips to share, engage with your local police and community forums. Together, we can make a difference.
