FKF Honours Former Footballers and Their Families with Free Passes to CHAN Games

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced a groundbreaking initiative to honour former footballers by offering them and their families free passes to all African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 matches. FKF President Hussein Mohammed confirmed this commitment during a special breakfast meeting with football legends, emphasizing the importance of recognizing their contributions to Kenyan football.

A Meaningful Gesture for Legends

The FKF’s approach combines respect and actionable strategies to uplift former players. Hussein assured attendees that they would receive accreditation for hassle-free entry into match venues, complete with preferential seating arrangements for them and their families. “All our games, you will get preferential seating… and you are given the due recognition that you deserve,” he stated.

This initiative reflects the FKF’s dedication to supporting former players, a key focus in Hussein’s leadership manifesto, which aims to address the welfare of past athletes. By operationalizing a Hall of Fame and documenting the history of all footballers, FKF is taking significant steps to safeguard the legacy of these sports icons.

Plans for Enhanced Welfare Programs

The federation is also committed to establishing welfare programs aimed at enhancing the lives of retired footballers. Future initiatives include a pension scheme or a SACCO specifically tailored for these athletes. “We will come up with programs to ensure that retired footballers will have some kind of a pension or a SACCO to take care of their needs in retirement,” Hussein noted. This focus on sustainability is vital for ensuring that former players can enjoy a secure and fulfilling life after their football careers.

The breakfast meeting, attended by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and notable former football icons, marked a significant move towards acknowledging the valuable contributions of past athletes to the sport’s history.

Moving Forward Together

The FKF’s efforts to honour former footballers signify a positive shift in the sport’s ecosystem in Kenya. Recognizing their sacrifices through initiatives like free passes to CHAN games can reintegrate these legends into the football community.

As football enthusiasts anticipate the upcoming CHAN matches, it’s essential for fans to rally behind this initiative. Let’s ensure that the contributions of our former players are celebrated and remembered. Together, we can create a thriving football culture grounded in respect and recognition.
