Celebrating a Historic Win

The Super Falcons staged a thrilling comeback, defeating 3-2 in the final held in Rabat. The exhilaration of their victory was felt throughout the country, culminating in a grand reception in Abuja, where President Tinubu bestowed the players with the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger award, along with a three-bedroom apartment and cash awards worth $100,000 in naira for each of the 24 players.

A National Recognition

Ibrahim Musa Gusau, president of the Nigeria Football Federation, emphasized the positive influence of these awards, stating that they inspire young Nigerian girls to pursue excellence through sports and other noble professions. “Football unites Nigerians from diverse backgrounds, and such recognition will encourage the girl-child to believe in her potential,” Gusau proclaimed.

Additional Support from Nigerian Governors

The celebrations didn’t end with the President’s announcements. The Nigerian Governors’ Forum pledged a donation of 10 million naira ($6,540) to every Falcon player and member of the technical crew. Moreover, six players from the Super Eagles collectively donated 1 million naira to each of the Super Falcons players, further fostering a spirit of camaraderie and support within Nigerian football.
