The organisers of the Pitch Awards have congratulated the Super Falcons on their remarkable victory at the 2025 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON), held on July 26, 2025. This win, claimed against ’s Atlas Lionesses, solidifies their status as the most successful team in the tournament’s history, achieving their 10th championship title.

A Tribute to Courage and Resilience

In a heartfelt statement from Abuja, Dr. Shina Philips, President of the Nigeria Pitch Awards, praised the Super Falcons for their phenomenal courage and fighting spirit. “Our girls exhibited the never-say-never attitude that embodies the average Nigerian. Their comeback, especially after trailing by two goals within the first 25 minutes, is a testament to resilience that should inspire all Nigerians,” he remarked.

Encouragement for Continued Support

Dr. Philips extended his congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all Nigerians, highlighting the importance of steadfast solidarity with the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation. “Both bodies are dedicated to improving the fortunes of our national teams,” he noted.

Spotlight on Individual Talents

The achievements of the Super Falcons’ captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, and goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, were particularly highlighted, with Ajibade winning the prestigious Queen of the Pitch Award.

A Bright Future Ahead

With the Super Falcons remaining undefeated in six matches and scoring 14 goals in the tournament, Philips expressed confidence that their victory will serve as a catalyst for success throughout Nigeria’s football landscape. “We believe the Super Eagles will soon bring home the World Cup,” he asserted.

The Nigeria Pitch Awards, established in 2013, will host its 12th ceremony in December 2025, continuing to recognize outstanding contributions to Nigerian sports.
