Connecting with Roots

Chelsea FC defender Tosin Adarabioyo has expressed his excitement during his maiden visit to Nigeria, where he unveiled the inaugural Tosin Adarabioyo Youth Cup, aimed at promoting grassroots football and empowering aspiring players across the country. “It’s a great feeling to be in Nigeria. I’m hoping for a wonderful time with family while connecting with young footballers across the country,” he shared with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

National Tournament

The youth tournament featured four Lagos-based grassroots teams—Team Lagos, 36 Lions, Seamoriow, and Mavlon—designed to identify raw talent and encourage discipline among young athletes. Team Lagos claimed the title after defeating 36 Lions 1–0 in a closely contested final.

Passion for Empowerment

Adarabioyo described the competition as a deeply personal initiative, driven by his passion for youth empowerment through sport. “Grassroots football is essential to national sporting success,” he emphasized, highlighting its role in discovering and nurturing future stars.

Commitment to Development

He noted, “Football is no longer just a game; it’s a global industry that demands investment in infrastructure and talented youth development.” Looking forward, Adarabioyo plans for the Youth Cup to become an annual event, expanding nationwide with the goal of sustainable impact through partnerships with local stakeholders.
