NFF Announces Decision On Match-Fixing Case Involving Cynosure FC Vs E-World United/Liberty Lions

NFF Dismisses Cynosure FC’s Protest

The Nationwide League One (NLO) Promotion Playoff can now proceed after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Disciplinary Committee dismissed Cynosure FC’s protest, confirming E-World United as winners of the Calabar Centre. This pivotal decision clears the way for E-World United to join FC One Rocket, Ozalla FC, and Ahudiya FC in the Slot 4 Promotion Playoff, where these teams will compete for one available spot in the Nigeria National League (NNL).

Details of the Protest

Cynosure FC had lodged a protest regarding the last group match in the Calabar Centre against E-World United and Liberty Lions FC, alleging that the match result was manipulated. Specifically, they claimed Liberty fielded only seven players to benefit E-World, who won the match 3–1.

However, during a meeting on July 2, 2025, the NFF Disciplinary Committee found the protest to be baseless. The committee cited several key points:

  • The kickoff time was adjusted from 4:00 PM to 8:00 AM at Cynosure’s chairman’s request for simultaneous matches.
  • Liberty Lions started with seven players due to lateness but ultimately completed the match with eleven, as allowed by FIFA regulations.
  • Cynosure FC failed to substantiate any claims of match-fixing.
  • The original fine of ₦500,000 on Cynosure FC was upheld, but the six-month suspension of the chairman was lifted.

Resumption of the Promotion Playoff

With the protest resolved, the Port Harcourt Centre playoff, previously suspended, will now resume. E-World United will face FC One Rocket, Ozalla FC, and Ahudiya FC for the single promotion ticket available in that zone.

NLO Chief Operating Officer Olushola Ogunnowo had confirmed that the playoffs were on hold due to Cynosure’s appeal. With the NFF’s ruling now finalized, clubs can shift their focus to the crucial fixtures ahead.

What’s Next?

New dates for the Port Harcourt Centre fixtures are expected to be announced shortly. Football enthusiasts and stakeholders eagerly await which team will secure a place in the second-tier Nigeria National League.

In conclusion, this decision provides clarity and much-needed relief to participating teams and stakeholders, who have been anxiously awaiting confirmation about the playoffs. Feel free to share your thoughts or predictions regarding the upcoming matches in the comments!
