Celebration at Aso Rock

On Monday, President Tinubu hosted the Super Falcons players and officials at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, celebrating their thrilling 3–2 victory over Morocco in the final. In a significant gesture acknowledging their hard work, each player was awarded $100,000, while the 11 team officials received $50,000. Additionally, the team was gifted three-bedroom apartments at the Renewed Hope Estate and conferred with the national honour of the Order of the Niger (OON).

A Milestone for Women’s Football

Gusau highlighted that this extraordinary act is a monumental milestone for women’s football in the country. “I am overjoyed because Mr. President has done what no leader before him had done. This is a magnificent day for women’s football and indeed, football generally. This action will motivate the girl-child to pursue greatness through legitimate means,” he noted.

Encouraging Future Generations

The NFF President emphasized how this support from the head of state serves as a vital encouragement for young girls in Nigeria, inspiring them to participate in sports and aim for excellence. With initiatives like these, the government demonstrates its commitment to empowering women and promoting gender equality in sports.

Conclusion

The cash rewards and honors presented to the Super Falcons signify a new era for women in sports in Nigeria.
