WAFCON Prize Money: How Much Each Super Falcons Star Earned After President Tinubu’s $100,000 Gift

After the Super Falcons of Nigeria triumphed in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) by clinching their record-extending 10th title, they were rewarded significantly for their remarkable achievements. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced a generous gift of $100,000 to each player, elevating the financial rewards from this historic victory.

An Impressive Victory and Prize Breakdown

In a thrilling final at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, Nigeria managed to overturn a 2-0 deficit to win the match 3-2. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) committed to allocating a substantial portion of the tournament’s prize money directly to the players, encouraging performance and unity.

The total prize money for winning the tournament was boosted this year to $3.45 million, a 45% increase from the previous edition. Out of this amount, the Falcons earned $1 million, ensuring $300,000 (₦450 million) or $12,500 (₦18.75 million) per player will directly benefit the team’s 24 members.

Total Compensation for Each Player

President Tinubu’s commitment adds another layer of reward, bringing the total earnings for each Super Falcons player to approximately $116,000 (including the naira equivalent of $100,000 and a ₦10 million donation from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum). In addition, players received a daily camp allowance totaling roughly $3,500 for the tournament.

Furthermore, each player will be presented with a three-bedroom flat in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate, along with the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) honor.

Celebrating Their Success

The players were honored at a lavish banquet in Abuja, where their achievements were celebrated. Asisat Oshoala, a key player in the squad, expressed her gratitude following the generous cash gifts and national accolades.

Their victory not only raises the profile of women’s football in Nigeria but also lays a strong foundation for future competitions.

This remarkable investment in the Super Falcons showcases a commitment to supporting female athletes and the growth of women’s sports in Nigeria.
