NFF Extends Tenure Of NPFL, NNL, NLO Boards To Sept 2026

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially extended the tenure of the boards overseeing the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigeria National League (NNL), and Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) until September 29, 2026. This crucial decision aligns with the ongoing tenure of the current NFF administration, led by Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON).

Tenure Details

The current NFF board, which took office on September 30, 2022, will now preside over Nigerian football activities until September 29, 2026. With this extension, the NPFL board led by Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, the NNL board under Chief George Aluo, and the NLO board headed by Mr. Silas Ali Agara will all maintain their positions for the next three years.

NFF’s Commendation

Dr. Ademola Olajire, NFF’s Director of Communication, announced the decision and praised the efforts of the league boards during their two years of service. He emphasized the importance of enhancing Nigeria’s football leagues by fostering a more competitive environment for teams and stakeholders both locally and across the African continent.

Pending Decisions

While the NPFL, NNL, and NLO boards secured their extensions, the fate of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) board, led by Ms. Nkechi Nneka Obi, remains uncertain as the NFF has postponed deliberations regarding their tenure. The NWFL board’s current mandate, initiated on July 1, 2023, is set to conclude on June 30, 2025.

Conclusion

The NFF’s decision to extend the NPFL, NNL, and NLO boards is expected to provide stability and continuity in Nigerian football governance. Stakeholders and fans alike can look forward to improved league structures and more competitive matches in the coming years. What are your thoughts on this decision?
