CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has embarked on a crucial two-day tour of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) host nations, starting with Tanzania on Thursday, 19 December 2024. This visit aims to assess venue readiness, foster partnerships, and enhance football development across the African continent.

Strengthening Football Infrastructure

During his time in Tanzania, Dr. Motsepe visited the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, a key venue for the upcoming CHAN matches. His inspection was vital in confirming that the stadium meets the necessary standards for hosting international events. Dr. Motsepe expressed gratitude to Tanzania’s President, Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, for her unwavering support of football initiatives in the nation, emphasizing the importance of government involvement in sports development.

The CAF President also held a meeting with Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi, further showcasing the collaborative efforts required to enhance football infrastructure and governance.

The CAF President’s itinerary includes critical discussions with regional football leaders. On Friday, Dr. Motsepe will travel to Kenya and Uganda, where he will engage with Presidents William Ruto and Yoweri Museveni, respectively. This diplomatic strategy aims to unify efforts across East Africa to bolster football capabilities. Meetings will involve examining the roles of local football federations in realizing shared objectives for CHAN 2024.
