Kenya Steps Up Preparation with Security Assessment Ahead of TotalEnergies CHAN 2024

With under three weeks to go before the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), Kenyan authorities are taking decisive steps to ensure a safe and world-class tournament experience. The Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security, Kipchumba Murkomen, alongside Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, has confirmed the country’s robust readiness by inspecting key venues and enhancing security protocols.

Comprehensive Security Measures in Place

During an inspection tour of Moi Sports Centre Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium, Murkomen highlighted the extensive preparations made to ensure the safety of players, officials, and fans. “From our airports to our stadiums, comprehensive security protocols are in place,” he stated. These measures, which include contingency plans and optimized access controls, underscore Kenya’s commitment to delivering a secure environment for the month-long event, co-hosted with Uganda and Tanzania from August 2 to 30.

Visa-Free Entry to Boost Attendance

In a significant strategic move, the Kenyan government announced that all African nationals will be granted visa-free entry for the tournament. This unprecedented initiative aims to encourage continental travel and maximize fan attendance, further showcasing Kenya’s hospitality. Murkomen reiterated, “Kenya is determined to offer a memorable CHAN experience” as part of its broader goal to strengthen regional ties and promote tourism.

Final Preparations and Kickoff

The successful completion of CAF-recommended adjustments has been confirmed, solidifying Kenya’s preparedness for the tournament. The opening match is scheduled for August 3 at Kasarani Stadium, featuring the host nation against two-time champions DR Congo, followed by a clash between Morocco and Angola at Nyayo Stadium later that day.

In conclusion, Kenya’s rigorous preparations for CHAN 2024 reflect its commitment to hosting a safe, exciting tournament. Fans and participants can expect a vibrant atmosphere bolstered by heightened security measures. To catch the excitement, mark your calendars for kickoff on August 3, 2024!
