Infantino Meets President Ruto, Secures Land for Kenya’s FIFA Technical Centre and Attends CHAN 2024 Final

Land Secured for Football Development

During his first official visit to Kenya since becoming FIFA President in 2016, Infantino received official title deeds for land designated for the Football Kenya Federation’s (FKF) new technical centre. Positioned in Machakos County and backed by FIFA Forward funding, this USD 4.6 million facility will feature both natural and artificial pitches, an administration block, and modern conference facilities.

“I was honoured to discuss our beautiful game and receive the deeds to the land on which the future of Kenyan football will be built,” said Infantino. This project aims to support not only the national teams of today but also inspire future generations of Kenyan footballers.

Enhancing Infrastructure for Future Tournaments

Infantino also addressed a press conference before his visit to the 60,000-seat Talanta Stadium, a flagship venue for the upcoming AFCON 2027, which Kenya will co-host alongside Tanzania and Uganda. The infrastructure improvements come at an opportune time, as Kenya recently successfully co-hosted the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) with Uganda and Tanzania, showcasing the nation’s growing capability in hosting major tournaments.

Infantino emphasized the importance of collaboration, expressing gratitude to President Ruto and FKF President Hussein Mohammed for their commitment to elevating Kenyan football through this vital infrastructure.

Celebrating CHAN Success

Infantino capped his visit by attending the CHAN 2024 final at the Moi International Sports Centre, where Morocco triumphed over Madagascar 3-2. “Congratulations to Morocco, to Madagascar, and to the remarkable fans in Kenya,” he said, highlighting the enthusiasm for football in the country. By successfully executing this tournament, Kenya not only demonstrated its football passion but also solidified its status as a worthy host for international events.

With strategic investments in facilities and a commitment to nurturing talent, Kenya is on a promising path to reviving its football legacy. The launch of the technical centre and upcoming tournaments present exciting opportunities for players and fans alike. Stay informed and engaged with the evolving landscape of Kenyan football.
