Kenya has taken a significant leap in showcasing its capabilities to host large-scale sporting events, particularly during the recent CHAN 2025 tournament. As the competition concluded with Morocco defeating Madagascar 3–2 at the Moi International Sports Centre on August 30, 2025, it emerged that East Africa is more than capable of running a modern, tech-driven continental tournament.

A Milestone Event

The African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025 marked Kenya’s largest football event in nearly two decades. Held from August 2 to 30, 2025, and co-hosted by Uganda and Tanzania under the “Pamoja” regional identity, the tournament demonstrated Kenya’s potential to deliver a seamless event. This was not just about football; it was an opportunity to erase past setbacks in stadium infrastructure and event organization.

Innovative Broadcasting and Connectivity

Kenya embraced cutting-edge technology by partnering with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and international broadcasters. Utilizing multi-camera setups and high-definition feeds, live coverage reached audiences across the globe. While Kenya enjoys nationwide 5G coverage, the stadiums relied on wired infrastructure, showing room for improvement in real-time connectivity during peak times.

Enhancing Fan Experience

The tournament introduced digital ticketing, which minimized queuing and deterred counterfeiting. Additionally, mobile money options improved on-site purchases. However, issues like congestion highlighted the need for better digital systems to handle large crowds effectively.
