Historic Handover Marks a New Era

In a significant meeting at State House, Nairobi, President William Ruto and Infantino formalized the land handover, designed to house a state-of-the-art technical facility. Infantino emphasized, “This centre will be a fit-for-purpose facility for our national teams and a beacon of hope for future Kenyan football stars.”

This initiative is part of FIFA’s broader strategy to invest in football globally through FIFA Forward funding, ensuring that local talent receives the necessary training resources.

Comprehensive Infrastructure for Future Success

The $4.6 million technical centre, set to be built in Machakos County, will feature one natural grass pitch, two artificial pitches, and modern administrative and conference facilities. Infantino expressed his faith in FKF President Hussein Mohammed and his team to drive this ambitious project forward, leveraging FIFA and CAF’s support to elevate Kenyan football.

Earlier, Infantino and CAF President Patrice Motsepe met with 54 African member associations, underscoring a collaborative effort to enhance the continent’s football infrastructure, especially with upcoming events like AFCON 2027.

Infantino’s visit culminated in attending the CHAN 2024 final at the Moi International Sports Centre, where Morocco secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Madagascar. He praised the tournament’s organization and the passionate Kenyan fans, saying, “Kenyans love football, and you deserve all of this and much more.”

Kenya’s proactive steps in securing land for its technical centre, alongside the successful staging of CHAN 2024, signal an exciting chapter for local football. As Kenya prepares for future competitions like AFCON, building a robust football infrastructure is critical.
