FKF Declares Entire Junior Stars Technical Bench Vacant

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has officially declared the technical bench of the Kenya U-17 Men’s National Team, known as the Junior Stars, vacant. This decisive move opens the door for a strategic recruitment initiative aimed at enhancing the team’s performance ahead of the crucial 2026 AFCON U-17 CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers.

Immediate Recruitment Process Authorized

In a circular dated October 8, 2025, FKF General Secretary Harold Ndege outlined the need for immediate recruitment in light of a technical review conducted by the Football Development Directorate. The vacancies include key positions such as Head Coach (mandatory CAF A License), Assistant Coach (CAF B License minimum), Goalkeeper Coach, Team Manager, and more. This strategy aligns with CAF and FIFA standards, ensuring that only qualified candidates with proven experience in youth development are considered.

Focused Timeline for Preparations

To ensure optimal preparation, Ndege emphasized that the recruitment process must conclude by October 20, 2025. “The process shall be conducted transparently and conclude in time to allow sufficient preparation ahead of the qualifiers,” read the circular. This timeline is crucial as Kenya gears up to compete against nine other nations in the regional tournament scheduled for November 15-30, 2025, in Tanzania.

Next Steps for FKF and the Junior Stars

As FKF President Hussein Mohammed and Vice President McDonald Mariga oversee the transition, there is a clear focus on assembling a competent technical team. The Junior Stars, with a history of strong performances—including a commendable third-place finish in 2007—look to rebuild and establish a competitive edge in youth football.

With the recruitment process underway, engaging qualified professionals will be imperative for nurturing young talent. This not only strengthens the current setup but plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of Kenya’s football landscape.
