NAIROBI, October 14, 2025 — Kenyan football sensation Esse Akida has made a remarkable comeback by signing with Kibera Soccer Women FC. After a year-long sabbatical focusing on family and mental well-being, Akida feels she is “in a good mental space to continue again” in her beloved sport.

A Comeback Fueled by Motivation

Akida’s journey back to the pitch follows a challenging period where she balanced her father’s health with her professional career. “My dream has always been to play football until I can’t play anymore,” she stated on Instagram. At 32, she joins Kibera Soccer Women FC, marking a return to the Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League, where her remarkable career first took flight.

With this move, Akida reunites with Coach George Robert Okallo, who has been instrumental in her early football career. “This is special because I’m reuniting with Coach Okallo, someone who truly understands my game,” she added.

Inspiring the Future of Women’s Football

Akida’s signing is a significant boost for Kibera Soccer Women FC, a club celebrated for empowering young girls in Nairobi’s informal settlements through football. It highlights the inspiring journey of a team that has ascended to the top-flight league, making waves in Kenyan women’s sport.
