NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 16 – The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League is entering a new era of competition and financial reward as organizers unveiled a substantial increase in the prize money for the 2025/26 season. The total prize fund has surged to Ksh 20 million, with Ksh 15 million set to be awarded to the champions.

The Opportunity for Clubs

With the revised structure, the runners-up will receive Ksh 3 million, while the third-place finisher will earn Ksh 2 million. FKF President Hussein Mohammed highlighted this development as a strategic move aimed at enhancing the competitive nature of the league and rewarding clubs for their on-pitch performance. “This increase will serve as an incentive for players and clubs to elevate their game,” he stated.

Driving Investment in Kenyan Football

The leap in rewards signifies a growing investment in Kenyan football, indicating that progress is being made. Mohammed noted, “This move reflects an awakening in Kenyan football, encouraging clubs to strive harder for success.” With the added financial motivation, the upcoming 2025/26 season, kicking off this Friday, promises an exciting showdown among clubs eager not just for glory, but also for the lucrative prizes.

Tusker FC will lead the action when they face KCB in a much-anticipated opener that marks the return of floodlit matches after seven years. Defending champions Kenya Police FC, along with other formidable teams like AFC Leopards and Kariobangi Sharks, will also be seeking a favorable start.
