NAIROBI, Kenya, August 30, 2025 – Fifa president Gianni Infantino has officially arrived in Kenya for the much-anticipated African Nations Championship (CHAN) final, set to take place on Saturday between Madagascar and Morocco.

A Milestone for Kenyan Football

Infantino was welcomed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed. This visit highlights a significant milestone for Kenya, showcasing its capabilities in hosting major sporting events. “On behalf of the Kenyan football family, I warmly welcome Fifa president Gianni Infantino to Kenya. Today we celebrate our achievement in hosting the CHAN 2024 final,” Mohammed stated.

This marks Infantino’s first visit to Kenya since his election as Fifa president in February 2016. His presence demonstrates Fifa’s commitment to elevating African football on the global stage.

Insights on the CHAN Tournament

The 2024 CHAN tournament has been a collaborative effort, with Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania co-hosting the event. Notably, Tanzania kicked off the tournament with the opening match against Burkina Faso at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium. Just last night, Uganda hosted the third-place playoff, where Senegal triumphed over Sudan in a thrilling penalty shootout.
