Women’s Team: Leadership and Experience

The national women’s hockey team is equipped with seasoned players like Grace Akumu and Caroline Guchu, who will provide essential leadership on the field. Named among the 18-player roster by Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) president Nashon Randiek, the team is coached by Meshack Senge. Their recent third-place finish in the last edition of the tournament held in Accra, Ghana, fuels their ambition to dethrone South Africa, the reigning champions.

Completing the round robin format with tough competitors such as Nigeria, Namibia, Ghana, and Egypt, the women’s team will need strategic execution to secure the title and represent Africa in the World Cup.

Men’s Team: Aiming for Greatness

On the men’s side, head coach Michael Malungu leads a dynamic squad that includes talented goalkeepers Samuel Silong and Joshua Omondi. With key defenders like Charles Ashihundu and Moses Muigaii, the team has the backbone needed for a strong performance. Following a fourth-place finish in the previous tournament, the team is eager to capture its inaugural title.

Randiek emphasizes the inclusion of Under-21 players in both squads, striking a balance between youthful energy and experience. This strategic fusion positions them competitively against the continent’s best as they prepare for future Olympic and African Games.
