Libyan football fans are preparing to follow Al-Ittihad’s moves in the upcoming winter transfer market, after board member Mohamed Ismail confirmed that the club is considering signing one of the Egyptian players, most notably Mohamed Magdy Afsha of Al Ahly. This came in press statements in which he spoke about the club’s plan to strengthen its squad during the January 2027 transfer window.
Special preparation programme during the break
Ismail explained that the club is implementing a special preparation programme during the international break that begins on 9 November and ends on 17 November. This break is linked to the Libyan national team’s participation in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they face Tunisia in the third and fourth rounds.
He indicated that the technical staff will not give the players a rest during the three-week league break, signalling the management’s desire to maintain the team’s readiness.
Al-Ittihad’s ambitions in the transfer market
Ismail said that Afsha is a distinguished player and would benefit the team if signed, adding that upcoming signings could carry a big surprise. He stressed that the club is not monitoring specific leagues, but rather tracking a number of stars to raise the quality of performance in the second half of the season.
These statements come at a time when Al-Ittihad top their group with a full points tally, giving the management room to move early in the transfer market.
A painful blow to the squad
On the medical front, the medical staff director Mohamed Al-Mashri revealed that Moroccan professional Nawfal Zarkouni suffered a severe bruise during recent training. The player is undergoing an intensive physiotherapy programme, with his response to be assessed over the next two weeks.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Ben Ali is close to completing his rehabilitation programme and joining group training, making him an available option for Tunisian coach Faouzi Benzarti.
What does this mean for Arab fans?
Al-Ittihad’s monitoring of Egyptian players reflects Libyan clubs’ desire to strengthen their presence in the transfer market. The linking of Afsha’s name to the club opens a discussion about the player’s future with Al Ahly, especially since the statements did not include any official agreement.
What remains most important for the Libyan fan is maintaining the league lead and overcoming the injury crisis amid a congested match schedule.
