On a thrilling European night at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam on Thursday, 22 October 2026, young Moroccan international Abdullah Wazzan (17) scored a spectacular goal against Italy’s Atalanta to complete Ajax’s 2-0 victory in the UEFA Conference League (league phase, matchday 2).

The match remained tight until the closing minutes. Nigerian Tolu Arokodare broke the deadlock in the 87th minute, latching onto a long pass from Juri Baas, before Wazzan stole the spotlight in the 90+3 minute with a superb solo goal. The Moroccan burst down the left flank with skilful dribbling and clever movement, penetrating the penalty area and firing a powerful shot from a tight angle that hit the underside of the crossbar and nestled in the net. It was his first goal for Ajax in European competitions.

Wazzan came on as a substitute around the 62nd minute and delivered an energetic and influential performance in the remaining minutes. The goal was not just the culmination of the victory, but a confirmation of his rapid development and his ability to make a difference under pressure, especially against an organised Italian side like Atalanta. Born on 15 January 2009, Wazzan is one of the most prominent emerging Moroccan talents. He was crowned champion of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations in 2025 and was named the tournament’s best player before joining Ajax’s first team.

He had previously scored a stunning goal in the Eredivisie against Heerenveen and contributed assists in earlier European matches. He also recently made his debut for the Moroccan national team. This goal adds a new chapter to his promising career and strengthens his position at Ajax, where he continues to prove himself as a versatile attacking midfielder who combines technique, vision and the ability to score from difficult distances or tight angles. The Dutch crowd celebrated the goal warmly, while sports platforms praised the talent of the “Moroccan jewel” who dazzles viewers with every appearance. As the 2026-2027 season continues, Wazzan’s role is expected to grow, both with his club and with the Atlas Lions, on his path towards greater horizons, including the 2030 World Cup hosted by Morocco. Wazzan’s goal is not just a number on the scoreboard, but a moment that highlights the new generation of Moroccan talents imposing themselves on European pitches.
