Galatasaray’s form ahead of the derby
The reigning champions go into the match top of the table with 19 points after eight rounds. The team has won six, drawn one and lost one. Their last win was 1-0 against Gençlerbirliği, with a late goal scored by Deniz Gül.
The team, led by coach Okan Buruk, are aiming for their fifth consecutive title and have a remarkable record of settling matches with goals in the final minutes.
Fenerbahçe’s form
Fenerbahçe sit third with 16 points, three points behind the leaders. The team arrives with a good defensive record, having kept clean sheets in their last four league matches. They have also scored 14 goals in their last three matches, according to reports.
Fenerbahçe face a difficult task away from home as they seek to break the home side’s advantage in a match that could change the shape of the title race. The team are looking for a title that has eluded them since the 2013/14 season.
Absences
Fenerbahçe will be without Marco Asensio and Nathan Aké due to injury, according to reports published before the match. The list of absences and the starting line-ups may change before kick-off, so we will update the news as soon as the official line-ups are announced.
A look at recent meetings
Recent meetings between the two teams have produced mixed results:
- 26 April 2026 (League): Galatasaray 3-0 Fenerbahçe
- January 2026 (Super Cup): Fenerbahçe won 2-0
- December 2025 (League): 1-1 draw
These results show that the fixture is not easily decided and that the advantage in the derby does not always depend on the table or home advantage.
Why the match matters
A win for Galatasaray would extend their lead over their rivals to six points, a comfortable margin at an early stage of the season. For Fenerbahçe, a win would give them the chance to overtake their neighbours and close in on top spot. A draw would leave the situation unchanged, a result that suits the leaders more.
