Josué Caicedo’s move to Barcelona has stalled at the paperwork stage, with the 18-year-old Ecuadorian left-back still stranded in his home country awaiting work permits and travel clearance. The prospect was officially confirmed as a Barça Atletic signing on July 13, according to reports from SPORT, but over three weeks on, administrative delays have kept him from joining Juliano Belletti’s reserve squad.
Missing pre-season while bureaucracy drags on
Barça Atletic’s pre-season training camp has already kicked off without Caicedo, a frustration for a club that had pencilled in his participation from the outset. Four fellow new arrivals—Joni Hernández, Juan Ybarra, Ignasi Quer, and Javi Castro—have all reported to the reserve team. Caicedo remains the sole outfield addition still absent.
These clearance bottlenecks are not unprecedented for Barcelona when recruiting non-EU players into their B structure. The delays stem entirely from procedural channels rather than any shortcoming on the club’s part, yet they nonetheless disrupt Belletti’s initial squad-building timeline.
