Colombian forward Luis Suárez has emerged as a contingency option, according to reports from Alex Pintanel. Barcelona have scouted the Sporting CP forward on multiple occasions and regard him as a genuine alternative should Álvarez remain unavailable. However, the financial barrier is substantial: Sporting’s asking price stands at €80 million, equivalent to Suárez’s full release clause, with the Portuguese club unwilling to negotiate below that figure.

At 28, Suárez brings established credentials to the table. His Sporting record includes 38 goals across 54 appearances, a return that positions him as one of the Primeira Liga’s most prolific forwards. While his output at Sporting demonstrates genuine improvement, the €80 million outlay would represent a considerable premium for a player whose inconsistency in finishing and technical limitations separate him measurably from Álvarez’s profile.

For the same capital, the club could pursue more accomplished forward alternatives currently available in the market.
