Ferran Torres has emerged as one of the most coveted attackers in the summer transfer window, with his contract situation at creating a major opportunity for rival clubs. The Spanish forward enters the market with just one year remaining on his Barcelona deal, and contract extension talks have not yet begun.

Tottenham Join the Chase

have now entered the race for Torres’s signature, according to TeamTalk. The Premier League club have made contact with the player’s representatives to explore the possibility of bringing him back to English football.

Spurs are actively hunting for attacking reinforcements after failing to land alternative targets. The club’s pursuit of Eli Junior Kroupi from collapsed, while negotiations over Victor Osimhen broke down due to the striker’s substantial salary demands at Galatasaray.

With those avenues closed, Torres has become one of Tottenham’s primary options as they look to bolster their forward line ahead of the new season.

PSG Maintain the Upper Hand

Despite Tottenham’s interest, Paris Saint-Germain remain favourites to land the forward. Luis Enrique, the PSG manager, has personally engaged in discussions with Torres in a bid to persuade him to join the French champions.

PSG have intensified their approach and continue to push hardest for the player’s signature compared to all other suitors currently in the picture.

A Crucial Week Ahead

The coming days are expected to prove decisive in Torres’s future. He is scheduled to return to Barcelona’s preseason training on 10 August, and before that date he is anticipated to clarify his intentions to the club.

If Torres signals a desire to depart Camp Nou, Barcelona would be forced to open formal transfer negotiations with interested parties.

Barcelona’s Cautious Position

Barcelona remain keen to retain Torres, valuing him significantly both in playing ability and commercial appeal. However, the club have no intention of disrupting their wage structure to keep him.

Any new contract offer will be conservative in nature. The club have made no plans to increase his salary, as manager Hansi Flick does not yet view Torres as a guaranteed starter for the upcoming campaign.

Barcelona are also pursuing Julian Alvarez as their primary centre-forward target, though they have informed Torres that a contract extension offer will come from September onwards once their financial fair play position improves.

Internally, Barcelona have established a minimum valuation of €55 million for Torres—the exact fee they originally paid to acquire him.

What This Means for Barcelona and Torres

Torres occupies a uniquely strong negotiating position. His contract expires in one year, giving him leverage in discussions, while Barcelona are constrained by financial regulations that prevent immediate contract improvements until September.

The club’s refusal to increase wages, combined with their pursuit of another striker, signals they do not view him as irreplaceable. If Torres accepts an offer elsewhere before 10 August, Barcelona would likely accept a departure rather than lose him for nothing next summer or negotiate a reduced fee.

The €55 million valuation represents Barcelona’s baseline expectation, though that figure could shift depending on market conditions and Torres’s demonstrated willingness to negotiate with rival clubs.
