FC Barcelona concluded their pre-season training camp at St. George’s Park in England today with an intra-squad clash that finished 1-1. Manager Hansi Flick used the session to assess his squad before the Blaugrana return to Catalonia and enter the final phase of summer preparation, with additional friendlies scheduled before the campaign begins.
Flick Confirms Striker Hunt Remains Priority
Concern has mounted among Barcelona supporters over the club’s limited transfer activity this summer, particularly regarding their search for a centre-forward to succeed Robert Lewandowski.
When pressed on the striker pursuit, Flick acknowledged the club continues working to reinforce the position and stressed that acquiring a No. 9 sits high on the agenda.
“We have to wait. I have total confidence in Deco, we know we have to do something. It also depends on Ferran. We’ll see what happens,” Flick said, as quoted by SPORT.
The manager’s remarks underlined Barcelona’s commitment to recruiting a central forward while simultaneously indicating that Ferran Torres’ status could influence the club’s approach to the remainder of the window.
Attacking Options Already in Place
Despite actively pursuing fresh firepower, Flick highlighted the attacking depth already available to him across multiple positions.
The German coach named Lamine Yamal, Anthony Gordon, and Karim Adeyemi as versatile attacking talents capable of operating in varied roles. Yamal has already featured in a false nine setup during pre-season, an arrangement Flick considers viable given the youngster’s exceptional quality.
“Playing with a false nine? It will depend on the squad we have. Lamine played in that position one or two matches with us. I think he’s a fantastic player, a world-class player, so he can adapt there as well,” Flick explained.

“Gordon and Adeyemi can play on both wings and also as a number nine. So, in reality, we have many options.”
Midfield Depth Sufficient for Now
Following Frenkie de Jong’s injury setback, speculation circled regarding whether Barcelona would enter the market for additional midfield cover. Flick dismissed such prospects, citing adequate resources in that department.
“We’re always thinking about improving the team and what’s best for it. But at the moment, I think we have a lot of midfielders. That’s the situation. We’ll see what happens over the next few weeks,” he stated.
The manager also touched on Jesse Bisiwu, the club’s latest summer arrival, noting the prospect has only recently integrated into training but has already demonstrated encouraging signs.
“He’s only trained a little with us. He has just arrived, but you can already see that he’s a player with talent and speed. The plan is for him to train with us,” Flick added.
Academy Talents Making Strong Impression
Several La Masia graduates have caught Flick’s eye during the pre-season campaign. Ebrima Tunkara, Xavi Espart, and Orian Goren have all featured prominently in the manager’s assessments.
Flick expressed satisfaction with the training facilities available at St. George’s Park and reflected positively on the overall quality within his squad compared to his inaugural season at Barcelona in 2024.
“First of all, the conditions here at St. George’s Park have been fantastic. Everything is close by and the pitches have been incredible. But when I compare it with my first year here in 2024, I think this season we have more quality,” he said.
“More quality in the squad, more quality among the young players, and more quality from La Masia.”
Espart particularly caught the coaching staff’s attention during Barcelona’s encounter with Birmingham, with his performance at right-back drawing specific praise from the manager.
“Ebrima is a great talent. And Orian as well. We have many talented players. Xavi Espart played very well at right-back. He had a very good match against Birmingham, and you can also see in training that he’s performing at a top level. And there are many others too,” Flick noted.

“I think champions never stop. They know how to win titles. That’s very important. This title should give them even more confidence. They know that when you work hard and stay focused every day, in the end it becomes something special. And that’s exactly what we want to achieve this season,” Flick concluded.
