Ter Stegen acknowledged the drawn-out process in his first public comments since joining the Dutch side. “Good things take time. In the end everything worked out well, and I’m happy to be here,” he told SPORT, reflecting on delays that spanned several weeks before the deal landed last weekend.
The goalkeeper revealed that conversations with Ajax’s hierarchy proved decisive. “When I first spoke with Jordi Cruyff, I immediately felt it was the right option. I know the coach, and I also know Daley Blind. I spoke with them about the project, and they were very convincing. ” Ter Stegen reunites with head coach Michel, who oversaw his loan arrangement at Girona during the previous campaign.
Fitness concerns firmly addressed
Questions about Ter Stegen’s physical readiness—shaped by an injury-marred year that saw him limited to two appearances at Girona due to hamstring trouble—have been put to rest by the player himself. He confirmed full availability ahead of the new season: “At Barcelona I started a little later than Ajax, but I’ve been training since July 2. I’m fully fit and very happy to enjoy being on the pitch and playing without any problems.”

Frenkie de Jong, Ter Stegen’s former Barcelona teammate, featured in a welcome video for the arrival.
